Home Sweet Home? More Like Home Sweet Gone!
State Of Affairs - 21-Feb-2025
In today's increasingly complex immigration landscape, many indigenous Caymanians find themselves feeling marginalized and pushed out of their own communities. As housing prices soar, they struggle to afford basic living conditions while witnessing an influx of affluent work permit holders and permanent residents who often seem disconnected from the challenges faced by the local population. This situation has created a sense of demoralization among Caymanians, who feel their voices are being drowned out by those with greater means. The tension between preserving local culture and accommodating new arrivals highlights the urgent need for a more balanced approach to immigration that considers the well-being of all community members.
Road Rage Incident - 19-Feb-2025
A road rage incident on Rex Creighton Blvd during Wednesday evening's rush hour has raised concerns after a 17-year-old boy was arrested, while a 72-year-old man from North Side received a warning for common assault. Video footage of the altercation, which has gone viral on social media, clearly shows that the elderly man initiated the confrontation after the teenager’s SUV merged into traffic, causing a minor collision. Witnesses reported that the driver confronted the teen and attempted to strike him, leading to a physical altercation. Although the man sustained facial injuries, police did not arrest him, citing that common assault is not an arrestable offense. The teenager was briefly detained on suspicion of assault but was released shortly after. The incident has sparked widespread discussion online, prompting an ongoing police investigation to gather evidence and clarify the events surrounding the altercation. Still not sure why they keep saying "elderly man" in the news. It should be "grown ass" man.
What is Riff Raff About? - 21-Jan-2025
A careless comment made by the owners of Indigo Divers, a dive shop in West Bay, has sparked a viral uproar, exposing the widening gap between residents and Caymanians. The incident began when the owners installed a locked gate on their dock, stating it was to keep out the “riff-raff” and fishermen, which deeply offended the community. Within a day, local politicians, radio hosts, and social media users condemned the dive shop, arguing that the insult overshadowed the gate itself. This situation underscores the frustrations of locals who feel their cultural heritage is eroding due to rapid development and an influx of newcomers. Although the offendres claimed their actions were motivated by concerns over littering and disruptive behavior, their remarks have been viewed as exclusionary and disrespectful. While we recognize the owners' rights however an honest humble apology with no strings attached for their inappropriate language is still needed.
